South Windsor Construction Company Aiding Social Causes
The company's owners are currently assisting a Connecticut-based veterans organization and the American Cancer Society.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A construction company based in South Windsor has become very active in assisting various social causes affecting many area residents. Through October, TruNORTH Construction owners Jeff Sawyer and Matt Powers are participating in Real Men Wear Pink (RMWP), a fundraiser to aid in the fight against breast cancer.
"RMWP gives men a leadership role in the fight against breast cancer," the duo wrote on the company's Facebook page. "Community leaders around the nation use the power of pink to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society's breast cancer initiatives, including innovative research, patient services and education around screenings and risk reduction. It's one important way we're attacking cancer from every angle."
Throughout the month, Sawyer, Powers and their employees will wear pink shirts and utilize pink equipment. Sawyer said his father suffered from cancer, as did one of their plumbers.

Another way the company is helping others is through involvement with the Open Doors Outdoors mission. Founder and Chairman Davey Edwards served proudly as a member of the Marine Corps, and understands firsthand the importance of active service members and veterans to feel a sense of connection.

Edwards believes hiking alongside family and fellow military members offers the perfect setting in which to do exactly that. His team organizes expeditions to destinations such as Mount Washington and Mount Monadnock as part of his effort to evoke healing and a sense of camaraderie beyond the call of duty.
Sawyer and Powers heard about Edwards’ organization, based in South Glastonbury, and immediately wanted to contribute to the cause. That pull resulted in sponsorship of a veteran climber who had his sights set toward conquering Mount Whitney alongside fellow enthusiasts. The duo donated $2,000 and plans to continue supporting the organization and its efforts.
