South Windsor Graduate Receives College Sports Honor

For the second time this season, he has been named as the Southern Connecticut State University male Athlete of the Week.

NEW HAVEN, CT — For the second time this season, Tyler Vander Vos of the men's swimming and diving team has been named as the Southern Connecticut State University male Athlete of the Week.

Vander Vos, a junior physics major from South Windsor, posted a total of five first place finishes – three individual – as the Owls finished as the runner-up at the 2017 NE10 Swimming and Diving Championships. He claimed the top spot in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle (NCAA B-Cut mark) and also swam legs of the winning 200 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relays. He also swam a leg of the 400 freestyle relay that placed third.

He currently holds the all-time SCSU record in the 500 freestyle, as well as being a member of the top all-time 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams. He also ranks in the top 5 in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 800 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
