South Windsor Holiday Gingerbread House Extravaganza Approaching

One of the largest Gingerbread House Festivals in New England is coming back to the Wood Memorial Library this year.

The following is a press release

Following the resounding success of its inaugural year the Wood Memorial Library and Museum has decided to once again deck its halls and throw open its doors for what is fast becoming one of the largest Gingerbread House Festivals and Displays in all of New England.

From Nov. 26 to Dec. 14, the spicy aroma of gingerbread will permeate the air as local artisans and bakers, experienced and novice alike show off their talents with a dizzying array of candy covered houses.

“There were over 75 houses on display last year and this year we are shooting for 100. It is the largest gingerbread festival in the area,” said festival director Bonnie Grover. “And this year we will be adding a central display focusing on Historic Old Main Street, gingerbread representations of iconic buildings located along old Main Street in South Windsor.”

Mill on the River, Vito’s and Max’s are a few of the restaurants that will be providing houses for display as well as all seven of Geissler’s supermarket bakery departments.

Many of the creations will be available for the public to take home after the show through bidding in a silent auction. There will even be a few lucky pets, as the festival this year will also include an all natural, all pet edible doghouse donated by Sweet Pea natural pet foods.

In addition to the houses on display there will also be a “Gingerbread Shop” offering traditional gingerbread man cookies and other holiday themed gifts and treats.

The Library, located on historic old Main Street in South Windsor, will provide the perfect holiday venue for showcasing the sugary artistic creations. So start the holidays off right with a classic seasonal event that is fun for young and old alike.
