South Windsor Manufacturer Featured by Sen. Murphy

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A South Windsor-based company was recently highlighted by U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy as the weekly "Murphy's Monday Manufacturer."

General Digital manufactures display monitors for all branches of the U.S. military and defense contractors like General Dynamics, Electric Boat, Pratt & Whitney, Hamilton Sundstrand and Raytheon.

Founded in 1973, General Digital employs 67 hard-working employees at their corporate headquarters in South Windsor.

In 1977, General Digital created the VuePoint™, the world’s first gas plasma, flat panel terminal with a touch screen. Now, their LCD screens and display systems are installed on Los Angeles and Virginia class submarines, U.S. Navy vessels, Humvees, rocket grenade launchers, and in air traffic control towers across the country and around the world. Their monitors are rugged and customized, allowing them to offer readable screens in direct sunlight, night vision displays, and protections against rain, dust, oil and other environmental hazards. General Digital also offers software development and cybersecurity protections and is currently developing new innovative products for their clients.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports.

In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
