
Daniel T. “Dan” Stigliano, 97, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Emma (Pantermuehl) Stigliano died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 30, 2017 while in his son John’s home.
Dan was born in Hartford, the son of the late Thomas and Marie (Carmada) Stigliano, he was raised in Hartford and lived in Mystic and Florida. Dan was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Army Corps and was a successful retired business owner.
At age 18, Dan’s first full time position found him suspended on a steel cable by crane over the Connecticut river assembling steel for one of Hartford’s several bridges. During the 1950’s, Dan, along with his brothers Joe and Francis successfully created Whitney Tool and Supply which continues to operate under the management of his son James Stigliano. In the 1960’s, again with his brothers they created a specialty popcorn food company “The Corn Cabin” across from St. Ann’s Church in Hartford. During this same time, he also served as a financial advisor and fund raiser for Our Lady of Sorrows parish in Hartford.

In the 1970’s, Dan used his analytical financial skills to invest in a variety of American stocks. Energy and defense were his two favorite sectors. During that same time, he also served as a Treasurer and board member of the Latimer Project Property Management Association in Mystic. In the 1980’s Dan provided funding for Whitney Glazing Supply which to this day continues to operate under his son, John Stigliano’s management. During that same time, he also served as a supportive member of St. Ambrose Church in Florida, as well as treasurer and board member of the Natura property management association of Deerfield, Florida.
Dan frequently was generous with family, friends and institutions he was involved with. During Dan’s retired years; he was frequently referred to as Dr. Dan as he often offered advice on holistic solutions resulting from his due diligence reading. Just prior to his stroke in 2010 Dan expressed his only regret in life was not spending more time with his wife Emma, who passed away in 2009.

Dan leaves behind his children; Thomas and Becky Stigliano of Deerfield Beach FL., James and his wife Patricia Stigliano of Newington, John Stigliano of South Windsor, Jo-Ann Stigliano of Ardmore PA., and Mary Beth Stigliano-Negri and her husband Jim of Rocky Hill. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; Todd Stigliano, Jeffery Stigliano, Gregory Stigliano, Edward Stigliano, and Kimberly Negri as well as four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his twelve brothers and sisters.
Dan’s family will receive friends on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor from 5pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor on Friday August 4, 2017 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery.
