South Windsor Obituary: Gregory King, 69

Condolences to his family and friends.

Gregory Desmond King, 69, of South Windsor, husband of Ellen (Davis) King, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 22, 1948 in Malden, MA, son of the late Harvey and Eileen (Johnson) King. Greg grew up a child of the Navy who lived throughout the northern hemisphere, including Panama and Bermuda, before his family settled in Connecticut. He was a graduate of Rockville High School, Class of 1966, and earned his BA (’70) and MA (’71) from the University of Connecticut.

Greg worked as a writer and advertising executive for several of Hartford’s insurance companies and also taught English at the University of Hartford. An accomplished bagpiper, he was a member of the Manchester Pipe Band for many years. He loved laughter, literature, poetry, painting, and his growing family. Greg will be remembered by his family and friends for his wonderful sense of humor, kindness, and generosity.

Along with his wife Ellen of 45 years, Gregory leaves his children, Colin King and his wife Christie Romano of South Windsor, and Courtney King and her husband Adam Senatro of Broad Brook; and his two grandchildren, Abby and Anthony. He also leaves his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karen and Gregory Kundla of Morristown, NJ, James and Debi Davis of Mooresville, NC, and Richard and Mary Davis of Oakdale.

Calling hours will be Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 12-3 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Rockville.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and/or to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St. I-91 Tech Ctr., Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
