South Windsor Obituary: Irene Burger, 97

Irene (Gebhardt) Burger, 97, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Richard D. Burger, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 6, 2018.

She was born in Rockville, one of seven children born to Carl and Mary (Pfeifer) Gebhardt on January 14, 1920. She grew up and lived in Rockville and Ellington before moving to South Windsor over 60 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1983, Irene was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford for 24 years.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews of both the Burger and Gebhardt families, who she loved as her own children. She was the glue that linked them all. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Carl, Arthur, William, and Roy Gebhardt, and two sisters, Lorraine Dziadul, and Jean Gebhardt.

Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Burial will be held at a later date.
