
James H Doer Sr., 82, of South Windsor, passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of South Windsor.
He was born on August 5, 1935, in Fernandina, FL to the late Louise L Sibley-Hill. James was an active man and loved life to the fullest. He loved to bowl, fish, play horse shoes, gardening, tennis and love spending time with his family and friends. He worked hard for 38 years at American Cyanamid before retiring in 1993.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Alma J. Doer. Along with his wife he leaves his daughters Sheila Sturges, of East Hartford, Gloria Doer of New Jersey, Dorie Doer of South Windsor, Genevieve Brown (Benjamin) of South Windsor and Stacy Doer of South Windsor and one son Robert Doer of South Windsor. He leaves behind his sisters Ruby Lee Wilcox of Fernandina Beach, FL, Mable Hill of Fernandina Beach, FL, Jessie Hill of GA, Drusilla Hill of Fernandina Beach, FL, Darlene Hill of Fernandina Beach, FL, Harriet Williams of Hartford and Deborah Williams of Hartford; his brothers, Crosley Hill of Flint, MI, James Hill Jr. of Brooklyn, NY, Jerry Henry of Fayetteville, NC, Norman Hill of Jacksonville, FL, and Harry Hill of Fernandina Beach, FL. He leaves behind his wonderful grandchildren Karl Miller Jr, Tauchee Miller, Tylon Miller, Kevin Moye, Sharlene Miller, Samantha Henderson, Corey Doer and Daniel Lee. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren Edrick, Eddie, Karl Miller III, Emil, Shawn and Treyvon.

He is going to be missed truly by close friends Isaac & Martha Fisher and Helen Countrymen. Special thanks to Gwen Syms for being there for James and the family. We appreciate and love you very much for being by his side to the end.
He was predeceased by his son James H. Doer Jr., and his siblings, Ashley Williams, Rev. Harry Williams, Genevieve Elder and Amy Joe Stacks.

His family will receive friends on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 9 - 10 a.m., at the The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor; a funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Bloomfield.
