South Windsor Obituary: Janet Kelley, 86

Condolences to her family and friends.

Janet Katherine Kelley, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Kelley, passed away Wednesday, January 17th peacefully at home with her family by her side.

Born in Hartford, to the late John Menser and Julia Johnson, and step-father Raymond Johnson, she grew up in Hartford and attended Bulkeley High School. Janet worked for Harvey’s Clothing Store as a buyer and manager and after 20 years, changed careers and worked for Dynamic Controls and retired from Hamilton Standard in 1997.

Janet lived in Amsterdam, NY, but moved to South Windsor over 60 years ago to raise her family. Janet loved sports and was an avid New York Yankees fan. She enjoyed going out to monthly luncheons with her girlfriends and enjoyed swimming, playing shuffleboard and painting at her home in Port St. Lucie, FL. She was a kind, generous, and loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

She leaves behind her companion Richard Lake of South Windsor, and Port St. Lucie, FL; her son, Edward Kelley of Jupiter, FL, daughter Julie Rackliffe and husband Tim of South Windsor; and three grandchildren, Brittany Kelley, Heather Rackliffe and Jason Kelliher. She also leaves behind her sister, Valerie Shipley, of Windsor, sister-in-law, Helen Johnson, of Snug Harbor, RI and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Kelley, son, Scott Kelley, and brother, Gene Johnson.

Janet’s indomitable spirit in the last few months encouraged her family to persist in the face of many struggles. The family would like to thank the staff of ECHN Visiting Nurse and Hospice Services for their excellence compassionate care and support.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, January 21, 2018, from 2-5 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018, 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor. Friends are requested to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor.
