South Windsor Obituary: Joan Richards, 84

Condolences to her family and friends.

Joan (Sullivan) Richards, 84, of South Windsor, loving wife of the late Harry Richards, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.

Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the daughter of the late Mason and Frances (Berry) Sullivan, she grew up in Fredericksburg and lived in California, West Hartford and Bolton before moving to South Windsor in 1960.

Joan was a real estate broker and she owned and operated Richards Realty, LLC in Broad Brook, she previously was the co-founder of the former Richards & Kehmna Real Estate in South Windsor. She was a longtime active member of Wapping Community Church and she had served on the religious education committee.

Joan was a charter member and past president of the South Windsor Junior Women's Club, a member and past president of the South Windsor Chamber of Commerce, a member emeritus of the Connecticut MLS, and former member of the Broad Brook Rotary Club.

She is survived by her beloved children, Michael Richards and his wife Sandra of Stafford, David Richards and his wife Jacqueline Morosani of Tolland, Patricia Richards, and James Richards and his wife Barbara of East Windsor; five grandchildren, Sarah Rossi, Rachel Richards, Joshua Richards, Shannon Nieves, and Reto Morosani; two great granddaughters, Zoe Nieves, and Lily Ann Richards; a brother, Mason "Spud" Sullivan and his wife Barbara of Fredericksburg, VA, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family.
