
Thomas J. O’Brien, Sr., 78, of South Windsor and formerly of East Hartford, beloved husband of the late Frances (Piccoli) O’Brien (Sept. 2016), passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2018.
Born in Hartford, the son of the late Cornelius and Eliza (Barry) O’Brien, he grew up and lived in Hartford and East Hartford before moving to South Windsor three years ago. He graduated from Bulkeley High School and attended IBM Computer School.
Thomas proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy. Prior to his retirement in 1994, Thomas was a data center programmer at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford for 35 years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and helping them with their homework.

He enjoyed watching the Yankees with his wife and going to the casino together. Thomas loved watching Chuck Norris TV shows, movies and he especially enjoyed meeting Chuck Norris personally.
He is survived by his children, Thomas O’Brien, Jr. of East Hartford, Sharon Hubbard of South Windsor, Doreen Junious and her husband Jimmie of South Windsor, and Dyan Acosta of East Hartford, and six grandchildren, Joseph O’Brien, Kelsey and Jalen Junious, and Selena, Ramon Jr., and Alex Acosta. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter Brittany O’Brien, his son-in-law Ramon Acosta, Sr., his brother Cornelius O’Brien, Jr., and his sister Julia “Judy” O’Brien.

His family will receive friends for calling hours on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 9 - 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury with military honors.
Memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
