South Windsor Pizza Parlor Shuts Down

A local restaurant has closed after being at its site since 2000. The current owners had run it the past two and a half years.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - The Red Onion Pizza and Family Restaurant of 855 Sullivan Ave. is closed as of April 13, according to a social media post.

"Despoina and I very much appreciated the kindness and patronage you have shown us over the last couple of years," owner Steven Austin wrote in a post. "We have enjoyed serving you. We wish you all the very best and hope to see you before we close."

The restaurant has been open for two and a half years under the the ownership of the Austins' but the Red Onion has been there since 2000. The owners told The Journal-Inquirer that they are closing due to a landlord issue, but declined to provide further details.

The post on the restaurant's Facebook page garnered a huge response, with over 100 comments. Many remembered spending good times at the restaurant and praised the excellent food.

One user said: "Oh, no! You guys have the BEST pizza!! We are going to miss you and your great food!"

Another customer said, "Best Buffalo Chicken Pizza. And those hoagies, yummy. Thank you, we will miss the Red Onion."

The owners told supporters "Thank you so much. This is not at all how I envisioned this chapter to go," and later confirmed that it was a landlord issue.

Many supporters asked on Facebook if the owners would open at a new location, but no response as of yet.

A request for comment from the owners was not immediately returned.
