South Windsor Police Arrest 77-Year-Old Sex Offender After Complaint Involving a 10-Year-Old

South Windsor police arrested a 77-year-old registered sex offender for allegedly making inappropriate comments and hugging a 10-year-old girl.
Ronald Cheney, 77, of 30 Fellows Lane in East Hartford, was arrested on a warrant Friday and charged with risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct. South Windsor police said in a press release that Cheney was arrested at Manchester Superior Court where he was being held on other charges.
NBC Connecticut reports that Cheney is listed on the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry for a first-degree sexual assault conviction from March of 1997 and he was released from prison in July of 2009.

Cheney’s most recent charges stem from a complaint South Windsor police received in August that he had made inappropriate comments and hugged a 10-year-old girl. Officers later obtained an arrest warrant for Cheney, which was served Friday.
Cheney was held at court on a $15,000 surety bond and was later presented at Manchester Superior Court.
