Driver Fled Stop With Passenger Still Inside, South Windsor Police Say

Police say the passenger asked to get out of the vehicle but the driver would not stop.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A New Britain man has been arrested months after South Windsor police say he sped away from an attempted traffic stop and refused to let a passenger out of the vehicle.

Tomasz Z. Matuszewski, 46, was taken into custody Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Hartford Correctional Center on a warrant tied to the November 2025 incident, according to the South Windsor Police Department.

Police said Matuszewski drove off when officers tried to stop the vehicle, speeding away while weaving out of his lane.

During the incident, police say a passenger asked to get out of the vehicle but Matuszewski would not let her leave.

Matuszewski is charged with reckless driving, operating under suspension, engaging police in pursuit, failure to drive in the proper lane, reckless endangerment in the second degree and unlawful restraint in the first degree.

Police said he was held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court Thursday morning.
