South Windsor School Officials Submit Reopening Plan to State
The current plan calls for full-time classes involving all students to resume Sept. 10.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — School officials have submitted a school re-opening plan to the Connecticut State Department of Education, proposing a staggered opening few days before resumption of full-time classes on Sept. 10.
Connecticut currently mandates schools require all students to wear a mask while riding the bus,
when entering school, and throughout the day. All adults in the building will also be required to wear a mask that completely covers the nose and mouth. Teachers will be allowed to remove masks during direct instruction, provided they comply with prescribed social distancing protocols.
A 20-page report submitted to the state included results of a survey done in early July, centered on three themes: attendance, transportation and masks. About 75 percent of school-age families responded, with 79 percent stating they intend to participate in an actual return to school, as opposed to continuing the distance learning implemented during the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

77 percent of respondents indicated relative comfort with wearing masks, while nearly 43 percent said they would send their students on a bus, compared to the 38 percent who said they would prefer driving their child to school.
