SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Anyone doubting the effectiveness of sprinkler systems might want to see how one stopped a blaze at Evergreen Walk Thursday morning.

According to the South Windsor Fire Department, an Evergreen Walk fire alarm was activated at about 8:10 a.m. Thursday morning.

At the same time, a 911 call from that business reported a fire in the building and the activation of the sprinkler system.

When firefighters arrived, the fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system in the storage area, according to the SWFD's Facebook page.

Other units arrived to inspect the site to see if the fire spread, which it didn't, according to the SWFD.

No injuries were reported and the local health department was on the scene.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the South Windsor Fire Marshal's office.
