SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A report of an erratic driver Thursday led police to charge and East Hartford man with drunk driving.

According to the South Windsor Police Department Friday morning, officers charged Matthew P. Dowling, 41, of East Hartford, with operating under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane and second-degree failure to appear in court.

Dowling is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court Friday after being held on $8,000 bond, police said.

According to the SWPD, officers were dispatched to the area of Nevers Road and Lake Street prior to about 8:22 p.m. to investigate a motor vehicle violation in which the driver was accused of driving erratically.

Police said the vehicle was stopped and during the investigation, officers determined Dowling was, potentially, under the influence of alcohol.

According to police, Dowling failed standard field sobriety tests and they later determined he was wanted on failure to appear in court charges on a prior warrant.
