Things to do in South Windsor

This weekend Mother’s day so a VERY Happy Mother’s day.

This weekend go for a hike with Mom
1.      Looking for a nice hike or bike ride, there are a few places that you can go. Located at the end of Main Street in South Windsor is the unknown Bissell Bridge Trail System.  It is located next to the 291 Bridge, this trail offers easy access to Windsor and has an extensive system of multi-use trails.  The views of the Connecticut River from the top of the bridge are beautiful.  http://www.ct.gov/dot/LIB/dot/documents/dbikes/122.pdf.          

2.      There is also the Major Donnelly Land Preserve, which is a tribute to a great citizen of our community.   It’s located on Sullivan Avenue right down the road from Cody Homes and Hoyt Insurance, it consists of 115 beautifully protected wetlands and woodlands, as well as a series of walking and hiking paths. http://www.southwindsor.org/pages/swindsorct_dpw/mmdlp/mmdlp.htm               Michael W. Donnelly was a US Air Force Major and veteran of the first Gulf War.  After being diagnosed with Lou Gehrigs disease  in 1996, he retired from the military and became a leading activist for sufferers of the disease.  He led a six-year campaign to convince the federal government of the connection between Lou Gehrigs disease and the Gulf war.
