Truck Hits State Police Car in South Windsor

State police issued a reminder about the move over law after a cruiser was hit Thursday.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A tractor-trailer hit a state police cruiser on the Bissell Bridge Thursday afternoon.

At 3:23 p.m. Thursday, a trooper was stopped behind another vehicle on the right shoulder on the westbound side of the Bissell Bridge on Interstate-291 in South Windsor, state police said.

The trooper was investigating reports that the occupants of the vehicle were having an argument while parked on the right shoulder. While the trooper was outside his cruiser speaking with them, a tractor-trailer struck the cruiser.

Neither the trooper nor the truck driver was injured, state police said.

State police released the following statement after the crash:

"Connecticut's Move Over Law requires motorists to reduce their speed to a reasonable level below the posted speed limit and (when traveling in the adjacent lane) move over one lane, if safe to do so, when approaching stationary first-responders."
