Winter Sports Practices Begin: A Look at South Windsor Winter Team Titles

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — It may still be November, and football season is still going for those who made the state playoffs, but the winter sports campaign is officially upon us as practice begins Monday for wrestling and girls basketball.

Boys and girls indoor track, girls gymnastics, boys basketball, boys swimming and ice hockey all begin later this week.

With players taking the court and mat later this afternoon, dreams of a state championship berth in March are already formulating in the minds of athletes and coaches alike.

Here is the state championship history in winter sports for South Windsor High School, including titles won by the former Ellsworth School:

SOUTH WINDSOR

• ice hockey, 2 (1997-II, 1976-II)
• boys basketball, 2 (1971-L, 1970-M)
• boys indoor track, 1 (1991-M)

ELLSWORTH

• boys basketball, 7 (1955-S, 1948-S, 1945-S, 1943-S, 1941-S, 1940-S, 1939-S)
