STAFFORD, CT — A man and woman were injured Saturday as a result of a tractor accident in Stafford, according to police.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on a private trail behind West Stafford Road, police said. A 66-year-old Somers man was trying to tow a truck axle with a tractor but a cargo shift caused the axle to flip backward, hitting the man in the head and pinning a 65-year-old Somers woman who was on foot nearby, according to police.

Bystanders lifted the axle off the woman, police said. A helicopter brought the driver to Hartford Hospital while the pedestrian was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, according to police, who said neither victim’s injuries were life-threatening.
