UNION, CT — A pair that sped into Connecticut while fleeing authorities in Massachusetts was tracked down — one person by state police dog Viper — after a crash, Connecticut state police said.
At 10:25 p.m. Monday, Connecticut state troopers were advised that Massachusetts State Police was in pursuit of a Gray BMW with New York plates.
MSP troopers reported they had successfully deployed stop sticks, but terminated their pursuit at the I-84 westbound Massachusetts-Connecticut, according to an incident report.
Troopers in Connecticut then conducted patrol checks of the area and discovered the BMW in the area of the Union weigh station with extensive damage, according to an incident report. One suspect was located near the vehicle with serious injuries and EMS personnel were summoned to the scene, state police said.
An on-scene witnesses reported seeing another occupant fleeing the area on foot and K-9 Viper and Trooper Kyle Kaelberer arrived and began a tracking detail into a thick swampy area near Exit 73, according to an incident report.
Viper located and apprehended the second suspect with the assistance of additional troopers on scene, according to an incident report.
Both suspects were transported to Hartford Hospital by ambulance and charges are pending, state police said.
