WILLINGTON, CT — Firefighters battled a structure fire on River Road Wednesday night that involved multiple propane tanks exposed to the flames, according to Willington fire officials.
Willington firefighters were dispatched at approximately 9:55 p.m. Oct. 28 to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of River Road.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire conditions and several propane tanks exposed to the blaze. Firefighters initiated a transitional attack to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading, officials said.
The fire was brought under control at 10:32 p.m., about 37 minutes after firefighters were dispatched.
Crews remained at the scene until approximately 1:30 a.m. Thursday, conducting overhaul and wet-down operations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Connecticut State Fire Marshal's Office in coordination with the Willington fire marshal.
Willington fire officials thanked mutual aid departments that responded to assist, saying their support and coordination were instrumental in bringing the incident under control.
The chief of the Somers Fire Department also responded and assisted with fireground operations, officials said.
