Car Collides With Train Near Stafford-Monson Line

A car hit a train near the state border on Tuesday afternoon.

STAFFORD, CT/MONSON, MA — Route 32 was closed for a portion of Tuesday afternoon at the Connecticut-Massachusetts line on Tuesday afternoon after a car collided with a train, police said.

The crash took place on the Massachusetts side just prior to the border, police said.

Connecticut state police at 3 p.m. said Route 32 was closed at the state line because of the crash.

The road was re-opened by 4, police said.

Monson police said a preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle carrying three "senior-aged occupants" was traveling north on Stafford Road.

Witnesses reported that the railroad crossing lights were activated as the vehicle approached, but it did not appear to stop until it was partially across the rails, Monson police said.

Moments later, a southbound New England Central Railroad train struck the vehicle, Monson police said.

Monson Fire-Ambulance transported all occupants to Baystate Medical Center with injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening, Monson Police said.
