Car, Deer, Collide at High Speed on I-84

The driver of a car that hit a deer somehow was able to pull over the safety after hitting a deer at high speed.

VERNON, CT — A 47-year-old Willington resident was able to pull his car to safety after a high-speed collision with a deer on Interstate-84, state police said.

The incident took place at 12:35 a.m. in the eastbound side of I-84 at the Exit 64-65 interchange in Vernon, according to a crash report.

A deer was trying to cross the highway from the center median when it hit the car, a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta, on the driver's side bumper, according to a crash report.

The car was traveling at about 65 mph, but the driver was able to pull over to the shoulder, and he was complaining of neck and shoulder pain, according t a crash report.

The car sustained "disabling damage," according to a crash report.
