WOODSTOCK, CT — A northeast Connecticut man has had another year tacked onto a three-year sentence for failing to report to prison after a drug conviction.

Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States attorney for the District of Connecticut, said that 43-year-old Andre Smith, also known as "Dre," was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford to an additional 12 months and one day in prison for failing to surrender to serve his active sentence.

According to court records, on Jan. 12, 2022, Smith was sentenced in Hartford federal court to 41 months in prison and three years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute cocaine and crack in eastern Connecticut.

Smith, who was released on bond, was ordered to report to prison on March 23, 2022, records show. On March 19, 2022, Smith cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet and subsequently failed to report to his designated Bureau of Prisons facility as ordered.

Smith turned himself in to the U.S. Marshals Service in Bridgeport on June 14, 2022, and has been detained since that date.

He pleaded guilty on October 11, 2022.
