Driver Found With Son On Foot At Willington Rest Stop Facing Charges
State police arrested the man on a warrant for drunken driving and more.

WILLINGTON, CT — A Windham man is facing a half-dozen charges related to a summertime rollover crash in Willington.
The 28-year-old father and driver was served a warrant On Dec. 15 charging him with evading responsibility, driving under the influence with a passenger younger than 18, a lane violation, driving without a license, risk of injury to a child and second-degree reckless endangerment.
He is due in Rockville Superior Court on Dec. 27, records show.

According to a warrant, at 1:07 a.m. on Aug. 20, troopers went to the eastbound Interstate 84 rest area in Willington to check on a man who had called his family to say he was lost and now aware of where his vehicle was. The family told state police he was supposed to be with his 7-year-old son, according to a warrant.
When state police caught up with the man, he was suffering from a laceration to the left side of his head and the child was barefoot, according to a warrant. The child had a mark on his neck consistent with a bruise from a seat belt, according to a warrant. The man told troopers he had been a Stafford Speedway with the boy and remembered walking along I-84, according to a warrant. The man also told troopers he had been hot by a passing vehicle, case records show.

He later admitted he drove to the track with an expired license. He and the boy were transported to Hartford Hospital, sate police said.
Meanwhile, state police followed skid marks and tire tracks on Route 32 that led to the discovery of an overturned Subaru Outback, according to a warrant. The vehicle had hit the corner of a garage and a tree before flipping, according to a warrant.
The boy told a state caseworker his father had "three adult sodas" at the track. Medical records from Hartford Hospital showed not only the presence of alcohol in the man's system, but cannabiniods and Fentanyl, according to a warrant.
State police determined the man had wandered away from the scene with the boy after the crash, according to case records.
