STAFFORD, CT — Stafford officials are in the process of hiring a consultant to compile a nomination for a section of town to the National Register of Historic Places.

A request for proposal package went public Wednesday and bids are due by Aug. 18.

The town of Stafford and the Stafford Historical Society are teaming up for the project. The consultant will complete the form and necessary documentation to nominate an area in downtown Stafford Springs to the Register.

The "envisioned historic district" will focus on the "compact Main Street" and what had been known as the village of Stafford Springs.

The project is being funded by a Survey and Planning Grant administered by the State Historic Preservation Office of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.
