Emergency Call from Highway Rest Area Turns Into Drug Charges

An emergency call from a highway rest area turned into drug charges, state police said.

WILLINGTON, CT — A man at a Willington highway rest area who seemed ill enough for citizens to call 911 wound up with drug charges, state police said.

The call came in from the Interstate-84 eastbound rest area at 10:19 p.m. on Monday, according to a state police report. Callers said a man there appeared "intoxicated or ill," according to a report.

Troopers went to investigate and found 27-year-old Samuel Shepley, of Moodus, outside the car with heroin and marijuana, according to a report.

He was charged with narcotics possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, posted a $5,000 bond, and is due in court on Aug. 21, according to a report.
