Inmate Charged After Graphic Death Threats: Warrant

A man undergoing mental health treatment through the state Corrections Department has been charged after making death threats.

STAFFORD, CT — A man undergoing mental health treatment through the state Corrections Department has been charged with two crimes for sending graphic death threats to his adoptive parents in Stafford, an arrest warrant indicates.

The threats were so graphic they warranted two third-degree assault and two second-degree breach of peace charges according to arrest papers.

Jose Cortes, 33, was due to be released on July 17, but is instead in custody on a $5,000 bond, which he failed to post as of Tuesday, according to judicial system records.

He was angry over his adoptive parents not bailing him out of Garner Correctional Institution in the first place, according to a warrant. His contacts with his adoptive parents from Stafford became progressively "nastier" and it escalated into graphic death threats, a warrant indicates.

"You will suffer every minute of your execution," was one entry, according to a warrant.

Another threat involved "dismemberment," according to a warrant.

Another was an "ambush," a warrant states.

The adoptive parents were told to "start planning your funeral and have (a local funeral home) create a tombstone with the date July 17, 2018 ..."

Cortes is due for a second court appearance on July 24, according to judicial system records.
