Life Star, Resident's UTV Used In 'Traumatic Injury' Rescue From Wooded Area in Willington

WILLINGTON, CT — Emergency crews responded Monday morning to the railroad tracks near the 200 block of Route 32, for a report of a patient with traumatic injuries, according to the Willington Fire Department No. 1.

That section of Route 32 is also known as River Road.

The Willington Fire Department, Willington Hill Fire Department, Windham Hospital paramedics, Connecticut State Police and Life Star helicopter were dispatched at approximately 11:05 a.m.

The patient was located in a densely wooded area near the railroad tracks. Fire personnel removed the patient from the area with assistance from a resident's utility terrain vehicle, the fire department said.

The patient was transported to a Hartford-area hospital.

The extent of the patient's injuries was not disclosed.

The University of Connecticut Fire Department initially was requested to provide additional manpower but was redirected to another incident in Willington.

Willington Fire later was dispatched to a third medical emergency in town, requiring Stafford Ambulance to respond.

Connecticut State Police said the incident was not categorized as a motor vehicle accident.
