STAFFORD, CT — Apparently, one might bark from a state police canine was all it took to make a suspect surrender.

But it was after a lengthy foot chase.

State police recently released a report on the incident connected with a July 24 domestic assault.

According to the report, the 27-year-old suspect fled the scene on foot into a thick wooded area along Middle River just before troopers arrived. Canine Drago was called to the scene and began searching the area.

An alert citizen on Charter Avenue then told state police that a man had run away from his vehicle after trying to steal it. Drago shifted to that area and located the man as he was attempting to run across Route 140, according to the report.

Drago's partner, Trooper Kyle Kaelberer, then deployed Drago, and after a bark, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody, according to the report.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries sustained from the earlier altercation and running through the woods for several hours, state police said.
