Stafford Man Charged With Sexual Assault After Rest Stop Incident

A Stafford man is facing a sexual assault charge after an incident at the Interstate-84 rest stop in Southington.

SOUTHINGTON/STAFOORD, CT — A Stafford man convicted of sexual assault in 2011 has been arrested on another sexual assault charge after an incident at the Interstate-84 rest stop in Southington on Saturday.

Southington police first investigated the matter then turned it over to state police.

Andrew Prucha, 42, of Stafford, was taken into custody on Tuesday at Johnson Memorial Hospital and charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, supplying alcohol to a minor and third-degree assault, according to a report.

Prucha was taken into custody and arraigned in Bristol Superior Court on Tuesday. As of Thursday morning, he was being held on $750,000 bond, court records show.

He is accused of supplying alcohol to minors, aged 15 and 16, and then committing a sexual assault in one of them, according to a report.

Judicial system records also show that, in 2011, Prucha was convicted of first-degree sexual assault and illegal sexual contact in a case out of Portland. He was given a 14-year sentence, suspended at the halfway mark, and was placed on probation for 10 years. He is listed on the state sex offender registry.

His address on both the registry and the arrest report for the rest stop incident is listed as 22 West St., Apt. 5, Stafford.
