Stafford Seeks Feedback On Witt School Reuse Proposals
Options include 48 affordable senior apartments and a YMCA community center, with no final decision on the property's future.
Stafford residents can share feedback on the future of the former Earl M. Witt School at 20 Hyde Park Road through a town community feedback form. The Town of Stafford is exploring proposals from The Michaels Organization and YMCA of Greater Hartford, but describes them as starting points rather than final decisions.
According to the town, Michaels proposes 48 affordable apartments for residents age 55 and older, plus a publicly accessible Community Commons. Apartments would primarily have one bedroom, with some two-bedroom units, for households earning approximately 50% and 60% of area median income. The Commons would accommodate wellness programming, community events, nonprofit activities and other community uses.
The YMCA proposal envisions a community center that could offer childcare, senior wellness activities and summer day camp. Its final uses would depend on community focus groups and a market study, according to the proposal. The town's feedback form seeks input on existing resources, service gaps, potential programs and redevelopment considerations.

Residents can submit questions, comments and feedback, including thoughts about the building and surrounding grounds. Those requesting a response must provide an email address in the form's email field. Input will inform town planning and be shared with the YMCA to help assess community needs and the feasibility of potential services.
