Tent-Dwelling Man Accused Of Armed Kidnapping In Willington: Police

A man living in the Woods in Willington is accused of holding a woman against her will at knifepoint, state police said.

WILLINGTON, CT — A man who had been living in the woods in Willington is accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman who came to visit him, state police said.

At 8:23 a.m. Wednesday, state troopers from the Troop C barracks responded to a report about a disturbance between a man and woman at a business address in Willington. A third-party 911 call reported that a woman had been assaulted and held at knife-point against her will, according to an incident report.

The caller also said that the man was inside a vehicle in the parking area of the business, according to an incident report.

Troopers located the man, later identified as 29-year-old Jonathan Yokabaskas in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, according tp an incident report. Yokabaskas initially failed to comply with verbal directives issued by troopers but was eventually handcuffed, state police said.

No weapons were found on Yokabaskas, according to an incident report.

The woman had visible injuries to her face and hands and was transported to an area hospital, state police said.

According to an incident report, the woman told Troopers that Yokabaskas was living in a tent, located in a wooded area off of Ruby Road in Willington. She told troopers that, while visiting Yokabaskas at his campsite on the Tuesday night, Yokabaskas threatened to kill her during an argument, and she attempted to leave, only to be forced to the ground by Yokabaskas, according to an incident report.

She told troopers Yokabaskas struck her in the face, again forced her to the ground, and bound her wrists with rope, which she later convinced Yokabaskas to remove, according to an incident report. She said that, in the hours that followed, Yokabaskas threatened to kill her and held a knife against her throat several times, according to an incident report.

According to the victim, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, she convinced Yokabaskas to allow her to use the restroom at a nearby business and the victim drove to the business accompanied by Yokabaskas, according to an incident report.

Once inside, the woman contacted a family member, who then call 911, state police said.

During a search of the vehicle, a knife with a 6-inch blade was discovered, according to an incident report.

Yokabaskas was placed under arrest, transported to the Troop C barracks and charged with:

  • Second-degree kidnapping
  • First-degree unlawful restraint
  • Possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle
  • Second-degree breach of peace
  • Third-degree assault
  • Second-degree threatening

Yokabaskas was held on a $250,000 and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court Thursday.
