Testy Scene Unravels In Willington Sunday After Crash Alert Notification: State Police

WILLINGTON, CT — A Willington man was arrested after state police found an unoccupied pickup truck following an automatic crash detection alert early Sunday and later located the suspected driver at a nearby residence, according to Connecticut State Police.

Troopers assigned to Troop C were dispatched to the area of 54 Trask Road at about 1:33 a.m. Aug. 23 after receiving the alert. They found a damaged, unoccupied silver Ford Ranger.

The truck was registered to Quin W. Rogers, 23, of Willington, police said.

Troopers searched the area for the vehicle's occupants and requested assistance from a police canine. While establishing a perimeter for the canine, a trooper approached a residence on Trask Road and found two men sitting near a bonfire.

One man said neither he nor the other man was associated with the truck or crash, police said. The trooper recognized the second man, Rogers, from his driver's license photograph.

When questioned about the damaged truck and whether he was injured, Rogers allegedly gave evasive answers and began walking away. The trooper then saw a crossbow and several arrows near a picnic table toward which Rogers was walking, according to police.

Police said Rogers physically resisted and did not follow the trooper's commands. The trooper took Rogers to the ground and handcuffed him.

The trooper also detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Rogers and observed other signs of possible impairment, police said.

During the investigation, a nearby resident told troopers they had seen a man matching Rogers' description inside the damaged Ford Ranger shortly before police arrived.

Troopers also went to Rogers' residence, where a witness said Rogers had left the home alone in the Ford Ranger shortly before police arrived, according to the report.

Rogers was arrested and taken to Troop C in Tolland. He declined to perform standardized field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample, police said.

Rogers was charged with interfering with an officer, failure to take a sobriety test, evading responsibility resulting in property damage and failure to maintain lane.

He was released on a $2,500 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 8 in Rockville Superior Court.
