Troopers Seize Firearm During Search of Commercial Vehicle in Union

UNION, CT — State police Thursday seized a gun located in a truck that drove past an inspection detail in the northernmost part of Interstate 84.

The detail was set up Thursday by the Connecticut State Police Traffic Services Unit Aggressive Driving Enforcement Team and Truck Squad with inspectors from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles Commercial Vehicle Safety Division at the weight and inspections station in Union.

At about 10:20 a.m., a trooper assigned to the enforcement effort stopped a commercial vehicle that had bypassed the inspection station, state police said. A search of the truck uncovered a Smith & Wesson handgun, state police said.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Bryan Lambert, of Halifax, VA, was taken into custody and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and having a weapon in a motor vehicle, state police said.

Lambert was later released on a $5,000 non- surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 13 in Rockville Superior Court.

During the day-long initiative, which included speed enforcement, 22 commercial vehicle inspections were conducted, resulting in the discovery of 67 driver/vehicle violations. As a result, 12 vehicles/drivers were placed out-of-service and more than $43,000.00 in commercial fines were issued.
