Willington Election Results 2019: Close Battle For 1st Selectman

Willington residents went to the polls to vote for candidates for first selectman, Board of Selectmen and Board of Education, among others.

WILLINGTON, CT — The votes have been counted in Willington, and Democratic First Selectman Erika Wiecenski narrowly retained her position over Republican challenger Peter Tanaka. Wiecenski collected 705 votes, while Tanaka had 654, according to unofficial totals from the Secretary of the State's office.

Democratic Board of Selectmen member Liza Boritz and Republican John Blessington were also on the ballot seeking retain their seats. Their unofficial vote totals were:

  • Boritz, 671
  • Blessington, 666

Candidates for spots on the Board of Education included three incumbents: Democratic chair Michelle Cunningham, Democrat Chiara Bambara and Republican Herb Arico. Challengers seeking election were Democrat Meghan Szabo and Republicans Donna Cook, Brenda Abrams and Liz Perry. Their totals were:
