The construction cost for the project is $2.6 million, and it's 100 percent federally funded, the project page says.

The Wire Mill Road bridge was built circa 1957, and has a total structure length of 25 feet, with a span length of 22 feet and a curb-to-curb width of 30 feet.

The overall condition of the bridge was rated to be "Poor" by the Connecticut Department of Transportation inspection and a traffic restriction was implemented with temporary barricades along with a weight limit to drive across the structure.

"The existing bridge will be replaced with a structure spanning approximately 30 feet, comprised of prestressed precast concrete deck units supported on concrete abutments on a concrete footing with micropiles," the project website says. "The deck units will be topped with a cast-in-place concrete slab with a bituminous concrete overlay."
