5 People Rescued From House Fire By Stamford Police

STAMFORD, CT — Three Stamford police officers are being hailed as heroes for their actions on Thursday at the scene of a house fire on Selleck Street.

Shortly after 11 a.m., on Thursday, a fire broke out in the rear of a multi-family home on Selleck Street adjacent to Outpost Pizza on Stamford's West Side, according to to fire officials.

The fire had entered the house from the rear, the SFD said, and heavy fire was visible on the first and second floors. The first arriving crews deployed a large diameter hose line from the parking lot of the adjacent property and began extinguishing the exterior flames.

According to the Stamford Police Department, officers Heriberto Perez, Robert Tighter-Twigg and Justin Roselle entered the house and got five people out safely.

Perez was working an extra duty assignment with Frontier Communications at the time, police said. The SPD shared a message from the crew Perez was working with on social media:

"Chief, I wanted to reach out to you. At today's fire on Selleck Street Eddie Perez was working with us when the fire came out of no where and the back of the house was fully engulfed in flames. Eddie ran into the house to get people out including a baby. I know cops get a bad rap these days but this dude was the unsung hero of the day."

Next arriving crews entered the house from the front to search for a resident who was reported missing, while other crews stretched hose lines to the first and second floors, the SFD said.

Family members on scene were eventually able to contact the unaccounted for resident, who was in another location. The fire was knocked down at 11:34 a.m., and final extinguishment was at 11:55 a.m., fire officials said.

The fire is being investigated by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office, the Connecticut State Police Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Stamford Police Department.
