Americares Event For Ukraine Raises Over $115K

Stamford-based Americares recently raised over $115,000 to help those affected by the war in Ukraine.

STAMFORD, CT — An "Evening for Ukraine" on Saturday, June 25, raised over $115,000 for Stamford-based Americares' response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

Americares is a health-focused relief and development organization that saves lives and improves health for people affected by poverty or disaster.

The funds raised during the event, which was held at the Wall Street Theater in Norwalk, will help to ensure children and adults affected by the crisis receive the health services they desperately need.

The event was hosted by the Gary Wendt Foundation an featured a special performance of French and American songs from the 1930s to the 1980s that offered messages of hope by Greenwich resident Valerie Ahneman and her band, Bon Chic Bon Genre. Ukrainian singer Iryna Lonchnya performed the Ukrainian National Anthem.

"The war has had a devastating impact on the health system in Ukraine. By late June, the World Health Organization had verified over 350 attacks on health care facilities and personnel in the country," a news release from Americares said. "Americares has an Emergency Response Team on the ground in Poland, delivering tons of critically needed medicine and medical supplies to Ukraine and supporting health services for families displaced by the crisis, including mental health support."
