STAMFORD, CT — A 30-year-old Stamford man was arrested on a charge of larceny of a motor vehicle, a first offense and a felony, after he fled from a stolen vehicle, according to Westport police.
Anthony Britt was one of three suspects to flee the vehicle, a BMW X4, on I-95 near exit 6 in Stamford on April 18. Westport police spotted the vehicle, which had been reported stolen a day earlier in New Jersey. Police were assisted by the help of a stationary license plate reader.
"Shortly after receiving the alert this vehicle was located by an officer, who followed it as it proceeded through several streets in the Compo Beach area," wrote Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso in a statement. "Officers began to set a perimeter around the area and were able to successfully deploy a Stop Stick tire deflation device on the Sherwood Island Connector at the Interstate 95 southbound ramp at Exit 18. The vehicle did pass through this area and struck the device."
The vehicle kept heading south on I-95 until exit 6 when it finally became disabled. All the while, Westport police followed the vehicle, and officers saw the trio jump out of the vehicle, all of whom were dressed in black clothing.
Britt was apprehended, but the other two suspects remain at-large.
"This remains an active investigation," Prezioso said.
Britt was initially held in lieu of bail of $25,000, but that amount was reduced to a promise to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 16.
