Victim ID'd In Fatal Stamford Fire: Police

STAMFORD, CT — The man who died in a house fire in Stamford last week has been identified as Claude Cyr, 64, police told Patch on Monday.

Two other people who lived in the home were able to escape, but they were taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries.

The family owned Cyr & Sons Roofing, a longtime roofing business based in Stamford.

The Stamford 911 Dispatch Center began receiving calls on May 8 at 4:21 a.m. reporting a possible fire at a home in the 100 block of Woodmere Road. While en route, units were advised a person was still inside the home, the Stamford Fire Department said.

The first engine arrived on scene at 4:26 a.m. and reported a working fire in a 1.5-story wood-frame home with heavy fire coming from the front of the structure.

Firefighters stretched a hoseline in the home while other crews began a search for victims, fire officials said, noting units found "heavy fire" on the first floor immediately inside the front door.

By 4:35 a.m., the main body of the blaze was knocked down, and Cyr was found dead inside the home, fire officials said.

The Stamford Fire Marshal Division and Stamford Police Department began an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire - a standard protocol, according to fire officials.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Arson Task Force were also called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
