The program, announced as INTEMPO marks its 15th anniversary, is designed to support young violinists early in their professional careers.

The selected artist will receive the violin on loan, a $10,000 annual stipend, teaching and performance opportunities with INTEMPO, an annual commissioned work and concerto appearances with Orchestra Lumos under Music Director Michael Stern.

The finalists’ recital is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 23 at Emerson Hall Foundation, 20 Forest St. in Stamford.

The two finalists are Daniel Rafimayeri and Ashley Yoon, both graduates of The Juilliard School who are currently studying at the Yale School of Music.

According to organizers, Rafimayeri is a laureate of the 2025 Washington International Strings Competition and winner of the Stulberg International String Competition gold medal.

Yoon has won the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music and has participated in several chamber music festivals.

The final-round jury will include Stern, INTEMPO CEO Lou Chen, Orchestra Lumos concertmaster Deborah Buck, INTEMPO Director of Development Robbin Juris, teaching artist Geo Suquillo and multi-instrumentalist Dave Edwards. Admission is free for youth and $15 for adults.

The winner’s recital is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 10 at Kweskin Theatre, 1349 Newfield Ave.

The selected artist will perform a solo program and Bach’s "Double Violin Concerto" with INTEMPO students and teaching artists using the Sgarbi violin.

Admission is $15 for youth and $35 for adults.

INTEMPO provides high-quality classical and intercultural music education to children, including those from immigrant backgrounds and communities underrepresented in the arts.

Based in Stamford, Orchestra Lumos is the preeminent orchestra serving Fairfield County and representing the region beyond its borders.
