Fire Damages Stamford Hotel, Officials Say

STAMFORD, CT — Several rooms in a hotel on Stamford's East Side were damaged by a fire on Memorial Day, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

The city's 911 dispatch center received a call from the front desk of the Red Carpet Inn at 1209 E. Main St. at 9:13 a.m. on Monday, reporting a fire in room 235, the SFD said in a news release.

Units from the Glenbrook Firehouse responded and found heavy smoke showing from the rear of the second floor.

Initial arriving fire companies located the fire in the ceiling of room 235, which extended into the roof area and was spreading rapidly, the SFD said.

The room was unoccupied at the time. Firefighters evacuated guests from adjacent second-floor rooms.

A second alarm was sounded due to the size of the building and its high occupancy load, the SFD said.

Hose lines were stretched into the building, and firefighters performed vertical ventilation on the roof to isolate and extinguish the flames, the SFD said. The fire was officially placed under control at 9:49 a.m.

A total of 40 Stamford Fire personnel responded to the scene. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

Six hotel rooms sustained fire, smoke, or water damage, the SFD said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office.
