STAMFORD, CT — Two Stamford residents were arrested last week after officers seized nearly 10 ounces of cocaine as part of a drug investigation, according to police.
Samual Melo-Cruz, 31, and his girlfriend, Lineth Arias-Mejia, 22, were arrested on May 28 and both charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell greater than an ounce, and two related conspiracy charges.
On May 28 at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Stamford Police Narcotics & Organized Crime (NOC) Squad conducted an investigation into Mel-Cruz for cocaine sales within Stamford, police said.
NOC Detectives, along with the SPD Patrol Division, detained Melo-Cruz in the area of the 50 block of Stillwater Avenue, police said.
During the investigation, 280.8 grams of powder cocaine were found on Arias-Mejia, who was in the vehicle at the time, according to police.
"Melo-Cruz later admitted to ownership of the cocaine, but stated Arias-Mejia grabbed it from the center console when they noticed the police presence," police said, noting detectives also seized the vehicle - a 2019 Toyota 4Runner - and $928 in cash.
Melo-Cruz and Arias-Mejia were each issued bonds of $50,000. They're scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 11.
