New Details Released After Heavy Police Presence In Stamford: PD

STAMFORD, CT — A man died Thursday morning after he appeared to have jumped from a building on Summer Street, according to police.

The incident occurred at around 10:25 a.m. and prompted a heavy police presence in the 180-block of Summer Street.

"A male appears to have leapt from a high-rise building there... We're processing that scene and interviewing witnesses," Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin told Patch early Thursday afternoon.

Conklin said the department was focusing on notifying next of kin. The man's identity has not been released.

The area around the 180 block of Summer Street remains closed. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area. Traffic delays are expected.

Police are currently investigating an "active incident" in the 180 block of Summer Street, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area, according to an announcement from the Stamford Police Department.

It was not immediately clear Thursday morning what prompted the investigation.

"Please avoid the area and use an alternate route to allow emergency personnel to safely respond and conduct their investigation," police said. "Motorists should expect traffic delays in the surrounding area. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of the community."
