Local Nonprofit To Hold 5K Fundraising Event At New Stamford Location

The event will support Filling in the Blanks' mission to provide nutritious weekend meals to children in need.

STAMFORD, CT — Filling in the Blanks, a Norwalk-based nonprofit that combats childhood hunger, has announced its eighth annual "Unite to Fight 5K," presented by Silver Golub & Teitell LLP, will take place Sunday, Aug. 23, at its new location in Mill River Park in Stamford.

The event supports the organization's mission to provide nutritious weekend meals to children in need.

According to the organization, proceeds from the race will help fund programs that provide weekend meals and school-based pantries serving more than 10,000 children each week across Fairfield, Westchester and Putnam counties.

Funds will also support the Fresh Food on the Move mobile pantry, which launched in October 2023 and has distributed more than 2 million pounds of food to thousands of families in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford and Danbury.

The organization said that with less than 1 percent of its food donated, race proceeds play a key role in supporting its food assistance programs.

Silver Golub & Teitell LLP is serving as title sponsor for the fourth consecutive year.

"Every child deserves the opportunity to come to school on Monday ready to learn, not carrying the burden of weekend hunger. That is why the work of Filling in the Blanks is so important," said Silver Golub & Teitell Managing Partner Peter Dreyer, in a news release.

"For more than a decade, the organization has helped ensure that children across Fairfield County and beyond have consistent access to nutritious food when they need it most. Silver Golub & Teitell is proud to serve as the Title Sponsor of the Unite to Fight 5K and to support an organization that makes such a meaningful difference in the lives of local children and families."

The event will also welcome DCG as a first-time sponsor. Headquartered in Stamford, DCG supports Filling in the Blanks' mission to combat childhood hunger in the local community.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Kids Fun Run at 8 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk at 8:15 a.m.

Participants can register as fundraisers, walkers or runners.
