Apartment Fire Breaks Out In Stamford: FD

STAMFORD, CT — A stovetop fire in a Stamford apartment broke out on Monday night, but it was quickly controlled by the building's extinguishing system, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

There were no injuries to firefighter personnel, but one resident and a dog were relocated by the American Red Cross.

Firefighters responded to a senior and disabled housing residence in the 40 block of Clinton Avenue at approximately 9:18 p.m. and found a hood canister-type extinguisher and an automatic sprinkler system confining a stovetop fire to a fourth-floor apartment kitchen, the SFD said.

With the fire extinguished, firefighters shut down the sprinkler system and worked to control water damage, which was affecting the first four floors, the SFD noted.

The fire prompted a response of 30 firefighters, the SFD said.

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
