STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Department of Parks and Recreation recently announced changes to lifeguard hours and swimming areas at city beaches as the 2026 summer season winds down.
At Cove Island East Beach, Cummings Beach and West Beach, lifeguards are on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reduced swimming areas are marked with red and yellow swim area flags.
Lifeguards will direct swimmers and others using the water to remain within the marked areas, and beachgoers are asked to follow lifeguard instructions during those dates and times.
Beginning Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23, lifeguards will only be on duty on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The final weekend for lifeguard coverage will be Labor Day weekend, with lifeguards on duty Sept. 5 and Sept. 6. The final day will be Monday, Sept. 7.
Heroy was closed for the season on Aug. 10, with no lifeguard on duty. Quigley is also closed for the season, with no lifeguard on duty.
Throughout the beach and swim season, lifeguard hours and permitted swimming area sizes are subject to change based on lifeguard availability. Swimmers should only use approved swimming areas during lifeguarded hours.
